The Boat That Rocked:

Avatar:

During distribution and marketing, Universal released numerous trailers for The Boat That Rocked; the one seen above is trailer 'D'.
Alternative trailers were necessary in order to market the film successfully internationally and appeal to varying audiences.
In the same way, the distributors of Avatar have released various trailers to be shown at cinemas in order to appeal to different age demographics.
For example, the trailer shown to an audience viewing a film rated '12' may differ to that shown to the audience watching a film rated '18'.

Any film that is set to be released in the UK is classified according to The British Board of Film Classification regulations.

In 1984 Parliament passed the Video Recordings Act. This means that, subject to certain exceptions, video recordings offered for sale or hire in the UK must be classified by an authority designated by the Secretary of State. The  President and Vice Presidents of the BBFC applied the new test of 'suitability for viewing in the home'.
